There is usually minimal or no pain after a Botox treatment. You may feel itching or tenderness in the treated area. If the sensation is unpleasant, it is safe to use an over-the-counter pain reliever like paracetamol to minimize pain and discomfort.
Avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours. No sweating or elevated heart rate.
Stay upright, do not lay on the area you have had treated or sit with your head facing down for any long period of time.
Don’t put pressure on the affected area , For a few hours after injections do not rub, or massage the treated area, or undertake vigorous exercise. Avoid any form of facial treatment, waxing or massage to reduce the risk of the botulinum toxin spreading to adjacent muscles
Skip alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours as this thins the blood and may cause bleeding/swelling/bruising..
Avoid any other cosmetic procedures on the affected area for 24 hours.
Don’t expose the affected area to the sun for at least 48 hours.
Additional notes
Side effects from botulinum toxin injections are very minimal and normal. We expect some swelling initially after the treatment (raised bumps, often described like bee-stings) where the product has been injected. This generally goes down after an hour or so.
Bruising is also very common, mainly around the eye area where the skin is more delicate, however bruising can happen anywhere that has been injected. This is normal and any bruising will gradually disappear like a bruise elsewhere on the body.
There is usually minimal or no pain after a dermal filler treatment. You may feel itching or tenderness in the treated area. If the sensation is unpleasant, it is safe to use an over-the-counter pain reliever like paracetamol to minimize pain and discomfort.
Blood-thinning medication like aspirin and ibuprofen may cause swelling and bruising. Avoid them for 24-48 hours after the treatment.
Dermatologists recommend drinking plenty of water for several days after the procedure. Staying well hydrated aids in the natural healing process.
Cold compresses on the treated area will alleviate swelling, minimize bruising, and ease discomfort. Apply them for 15 minutes every few hours.
Avoid vigorous physical activity like jogging and cardio exercises for 24-48 hours after treatment. Strenuous exercise increases the blood flow and may cause swelling and bruising.
To ensure the maximum effectiveness of your dermal filler treatment, avoid exposure to heat and UV rays, including the sun, tanning beds, saunas, and hot wax.
Drinking alcohol increases circulation and may cause swelling and bruising. Avoid it for 24-48 hours after the treatment.
Refrain from touching the treated area for six hours. That includes pressing, massaging, rubbing, or picking on the treated area.
Try to sleep on your back with your head elevated on an extra pillow for a few nights.
For the first 24 hours, avoid skincare products with ingredients that may aggravate the treated area. These include alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids, retinoids, and vitamin C. Use mild cleansers and apply sunscreen if spending time outdoors. It’s best to avoid makeup for 24 hours, but if you must use makeup, apply it lightly.
Most people can continue with normal activities. Some will have some redness, pin prick marks. Bruising is possible.
The product is injected in small ‘deposits’, you may be able to see them initially, but they settle usually within hours. It may be possible to feel the product where it has been injected under the skin. It will settle, there is no need to massage.
Make-up should not be worn for 12 hours.
You are advised to avoid alcohol and vigorous exercise for 48 hours.
Avoid sun bathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment.
Bruising may take a few days to appear.
It is advisable to avoid aspirin and alcohol for 12-48 hours after treatment.
Tenderness should settle as swelling and bruising goes down.
Please contact me If redness, tenderness, itching or swelling worsens after 3 days, rather than settling or you notice blanching, mottled bruising/redness, or pain (beyond tenderness as you would expect with bruising or swelling).
You can resume your normal daily activities after fat dissolving treatment.
Immediately after treatment with fat dissolving you may notice some redness, swelling, tenderness and a painful sensation in the treated area, as well as numbness from the local anaesthetic. These symptoms generally improve significantly over the next few days.
The swelling occasionally may last for up to 2 weeks, if symptoms persist or other reactions occur, please contact your practitioner.
Drink plenty of fluids after treatment, you should aim for at least 2 litres per day.
If the area is tender, you can use simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol.
Avoid makeup for 24 hours and any creams or skin oils, this will reduce the risk of infection at the injection sites.
A cold compress may help with swelling and inflammation.
Eating a healthy diet and taking regular physical exercise will help to improve fat loss and limit new fat gain.
Try to reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption to help prevent dehydration.
Avoid sunbeds, swimming, UV light and saunas until the initial skin redness and swelling has settled.
Avoid any extremes of temperature for the first week following treatment.
You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.
Stay hydrated
Wear compression stockings - You will need to do so for seven to 14 days, depending on the extensiveness of the treatment. You do not need to wear them at night while you sleep.
Walk around frequently - Walk at least 30 minutes a day at a slow to moderate pace for the first two weeks.
Additional notes
It is not uncommon to experience redness, swelling, warmth, or itching around the injection site for a couple of days after sclerotherapy. This is normal and will usually resolve on its own without treatment.
If needed, you can take paracetamol to help relieve inflammation and discomfort.
Elevating your legs also helps.
Bruising is uncommon but can occur.
In addition
Do not take hot baths or sit in a hot tub or sauna. Instead, take shorter and cooler showers than normal.
Do not apply heated pads or any form of heat to the injection sites as this can promote inflammation and bleeding.
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the first two weeks.
Avoid direct sunlight or suntan beds as this can lead to hyperpigmentation.
After two weeks, you may feel tiny lumps in the treated area. This is caused when blood becomes trapped under the skin and is completely normal. The lumps usually dissipate over time, although it can sometimes take months.
Avoid alcohol for 48 hours after treatment.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
Avoid touching the injection site for 6 hours.
